Argh, WORMS!!!

Post by x_firefly_x on Thu May 20, 2010 1:31 pm

Ok my original question was going to be whether the following looked like undigested roach legs or worms...but after taking pics through a loupe and watching one of the little buggers moving, its official, its damn WORMS!! Gah I'm sooo annoyed, only had this female a few weeks(its Marmite that has them) and I don't see how the hell she could have got worms here so she must have had them already when I got her. She's approx 2 years old and currently only 25g, been seperated from Greebo since I got them both as I wanted to get them both up to decent weights before breeding, I was curious about her weight when I got her but just assumed she had been over bred...I never suspected worms Sad I guess at least the good thing is I now know why she wasn't starting to put on weight and I can get her treated...will have to get Greebo checked out to bless him. God this is sooooo annoying though!! Just wish I'd have examined the poop more thoroughly before now and I may have caught them earlier Sad Right put some pics below, and am off to dig out some of my vet text books and possibly borrow my friends parasitology text book to see if I can figure out exactly what these little monsters are...in the meantime does anyone have any clue as to what type of worms they may be?

Thanks guys, luckily as I know what the problem is I won't have to drag the poor things all the way to my rep vet in runcorn and can just go to the vet surgery attached to the uni and pick up some panacur. Going to inform the seller as well, but leaving that till I have calmed down a little as I'm still v.annoyed with him.

Okeydokey, so have pretty much narrowed it down to pinworms, nice
Went to the vets at the uni yesterday to ask if they could give me some panacur so I didn't have to go all the way to runcorn for it, told them my rep vet had given me the ok to try and get panacur from here. Receptionist said to call them back after 3pm as she had to ask the vet nurse if it was ok, waited a few hours and called back only to be told that it was in fact the vet she had needed to speak to, which she could have done whilst I was in the surgery earlier that morning. Anyway I get her to explain to the vet that I can get the dosage and all that from my rep vet, I literally just need the wormer. But vet insists both that she will have to work out the doseages herself and that she will have to see the geckos herself. Needless to say she wasn't getting within 10 feet of my geckos esp considering I had to explain in the first place that they were a lizard...anyways after the fail at my local vets spoke to my rep vet and she said to just hang on till thursday when I bring kiki and dexter in for their appointment and I can pick up some wormer then. And I don't have to drag all my geckos down to be seen by her, which I'm sure my guys will be v.happy about lol Smile

hehe definitely much less stressful, esp as every time I get the female out she decides to jump all over the place and give me a right run around lol...can just imagine her trying to do that in the vets

The only pain in the ass will be the cleaning as they will have to be cleaned pretty much everyday and kept in minimally decorated enclosures for a while to make sure all the eggs are killed off. The worms are the easy bit lol, its the eggs that are such a huuuuge pain Sad

Aww bless no wonder she wasn't putting on weight. I can honestly say I have not had a case of worms in any of mine. Where do they come from, is it from crix etc? Its a shame the person selling them didn't notice them before selling, or maybe they did

I PM'ed the seller on RFUK yesterday, he messaged back and he obviously didn't have a clue, he was very shocked that the gecks had worms, he's going through and checking his collection, two theories he had were either that the worms came in with some wc geckos he recently got or he mentioned that sometimes pinworms can come in the livefood. He's been absolutely lovely and actually offered to pay for the vet treatment, which I really wasn't expecting...nice to know there are still some lovely decent people out there Very Happy (I've had too many run ins with complete idiots lol).

Anyway hopefully my lot will start fattening up a bit more now! It stresses me so much when animals so small start losing weight, but hopefully they should all be fine soon. Smile
