My vivarium idea
Hi,
Well I've been planning a project for when I get my crested gecko. I plan on getting a 60x45x60cm exo-terra making a waterfall which then leads into a stream and make it planted with a variety of leaves, and vines. The have insects in the soil to get rid of the poo etc. I'd also make a fake rock background, get some magnaturals etc.
So how does it sound?
Cheers.

Re: My vivarium idea
It sounds great in theory, however I have heard of cresteds drowning when a waterfall was installed, also there is the bacteria which can build up. Personally I wouldn't chance it, other's may have a different opinion on this.
Re: My vivarium idea
I have based it around a dart frog build (chondro13 on rfuk) and she put her crestie in there and she said it was fine. The stream would be about an inch, so not much, and there would be pebbles in it so they can jump onto them if they wanted.
The bacteria thing I am still researching, I find though, alot of people get bacteria on reptile branded ones, and not homemade(if made well).
I'm still humming and harring over the idea though at the moment in time. I will carry on getting people opinions and make my decision closer to the time.
Thank you very much for your input.

Re: My vivarium idea
I have to say I agree with sarasin, I would worry about the crestie drowning in the water (espeically if you are getting a baby) and also the mentioned bacteria build it, would be hard to keep clean all the time.

Thanks for your input; Vicky.
I am basing it around this one: http://www.reptileforums.co.uk/forums/amphibians/250705-how-build-dart-frog-viv.html . The person that made it put one of her cresties in there and she said it was fine. (page 6) The humdity in there I would need to sort of, as it averages out at about 95%. I wouldn't put a baby in there, I'd grow the crestie up then put it in there. But in ways I agree with you. I'm still looking around at crestie setups that are similar etc.
Thanks again for your input.

Re: My vivarium idea
it sounds good, i'd have thought as long as you clean the water regularly and change it making sure theres no poo or food in it it should be fine. good hygiene should work.
and deffinatly make sure they can get very very easily.
i reada thread once about someone's crestie who lived in a 45x45x60 (i think) which was also home to fish! they claimed the crestie could swim, not sure how true that is or isn't.
it looked pretty awesome i have to say.
i'm about to start making a waterfall for my cham viv (made a thread for it on here in other rep section) so fingers crossed for both of us
