How does one become a reputable breeder?

Post by The Professional on Sun Jan 27, 2013 5:20 pm

Let me just start by saying I don't even have a crested gecko, but I will soon enough. Research indicated that they produce offspring rather readily, which leads to the issue of what to do with the babies. From what I've learned most pet stores wont accept your off of the street kritter carrier full of babies, but I would like to one day breed them.

So how would I go about being able to sell them to a LRS?

Since I'm not generating any response I'm going to start by putting out best guesses.

Ideally there would be a room with several tanks (18x18x24) of matting pairs of 1 male to at most 4 females, with an equal number of nesting boxes and rearing tanks.

I read that a 3 gallon critter keeper for 3 babies is workable, but I would be interested in sectioning off a 20 gal 24x15x12 into two portions for 3 to 4 babies on each side with paper towel bottoms pvc branches and some fake plants.

Researching indicates there would also have to be separate tanks for each male after breeding season.

If this is correct, what would the minimum scale be for being reputable? Assuming all tanks are kept clean and tidy.

oh and never forget to have a quarantine tank
